Grosso Jacobson Communications Corporation (Grosso Jacobson)
Overview
Grosso Jacobson Communications Corporation (Grosso Jacobson) is a premier independent television production entity that creates, develops and produces series, movies, documentaries and pay-per-view events. These projects are sold to network, cable, subscription channel and first run syndication markets.
Our Way
Since partnering in 1980, renowned entertainment executives Sonny Grosso and Larry Jacobson ("The Founders"), and the companies and international entities they have controlled have delivered prolific results. They have overseen more than $400 Million in productions and generated over 700 series episodes, movies and specials for ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, USA, HBO and many more domestic and international outlets.
Grosso Jacobson Communications Corporation formed in 1999 with offices in Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto. The company is representation by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and has extensive Canadian production capabilities to leverage tax-based incentives. The Company is an established brand and trusted supplier to the worldwide television industry.
Production History
Grosso Jacobson has long been a force in drama and reality programming creating such series as NIGHT HEAT for CBS (96 Episodes), THE BIG EASY for USA (44 Episodes), SECRET SERVICE for NBC (44 Episodes), COUNTERSTRIKE for USA (66 Episodes) and TOP COPS for CBS (174 Episodes). The latter three series appeared concurrently.
In addition to their series success, Grosso Jacobson produces top rated and critically acclaimed TV movies including ALL AMERICAN GIRL-THE MARY KAY LETOURNEAU STORY.
The film was USA Network's highest rated television movie in ten years. In 2001-2002, six mystery and suspense made-for-television movies based on #1 best selling author Mary Higgens Clark were produced. Drawing on its extensive knowledge of international benefits, regulations and qualifying tax incentives, Grosso Jacobson assembled a unique Canadian/United Kingdom/German/French co-production and delivered the movies to PAX for U.S. broadcast and to a number of other outlets for the rest of the world.
These movies were in addition to the previous four that were produced for CBS and the Family Channel. Click the link below to see Grosso Jacobson's extensive production history.
Through these proud accomplishments, Grosso Jacobson has built long standing relationships spanning the entertainment industry and encompassing the leading networks, cable channels, studios, production companies, agencies, distributors and key writers and producers. Grosso Jacobson was originally represented by the William Morris Agency, and now the Company enjoys a very strong and exclusive relationship with Creative Artist Agency (CAA).
CAA facilitates meetings and network pitches, negotiates and handles legal contracts for development rights and production orders, provides access to a stable of the most sought after writers and show runners and provides additional creative and administrative support. The Principals have had distribution and/or co-production arrangements with CBS Productions, NBC Productions, ABC, HBO, USA, Columbia Pictures, Tribune Entertainment, Lorimar and King World along with Canadian-based Alliance Entertainment (now Alliance Atlantis) and Sky Vision (now CanWest/Fireworks).
In addition to its American productions, Grosso Jacobson was the first to navigate the preferential treatment rules for tax-based and government financing of entertainment projects produced in Canada. The Principals created Gemini winning (the Canadian equivalent to the Emmy Awards) and TV Guide awarded series such as NIGHT HEAT (the first Canadian television series on an American network with 6 years on CBS). Larry Jacobson holds dual U.S. and Canadian citizenship and enables Grosso Jacobson to control a 75,000 square foot operating studio in Toronto including offices, soundstages, carpentry shop, post-production, wardrobe, and a casting company.
These operations create substantial production cost savings (government tax credits, lower talent costs in Canada, U.S. to Canadian dollar conversion leverage, etc.) facilitate Grosso Jacobson's ability to deliver higher quality by putting more of the money on the screen. Grosso Jacobson is unmatched as the complete provider of lower cost scripted network programming.
Competitive Advantage
Grosso Jacobson's primary competitive advantage is its proven ability to deliver at lower cost while maintaining high production values and network quality standards. As the growing numbers of channels vie for viewership (and ad dollars), executives are under increasing pressure to find cost effective shows. With careful cost control, as well as the Canadian production expertise, Grosso Jacobson can produce on network fees that are 50% of the traditional license fee.
Grosso Jacobson has established an unmatched reputation by securing orders and delivering hundreds of hours of such programming - even when there were fewer customers (prior to large scale cable channel proliferation) and less demand (different economic environment) for such programming. The current market conditions are deemed as being ideal and the Company is on the cusp of dramatic growth.
Grosso Jacobson has a significant competitive advantage. Very few other production entities have the ability to execute using Canadian facilities, such as those controlled by Grosso Jacobson. Even fewer companies possess the ability or the wherewithal to construct complex co-production agreements and financing arrangements across various North American and European companies, which is increasingly necessary to defray costs in the global marketplace.
Additional competitive strengths include the Company's key relationships across the highest levels of the networks, an outstanding reputation for creativity, quality and deep prowess in both the made-for-television movie and scripted drama categories. Grosso Jacobson uses extensive connections in the marketplace to monitor the changing landscape and explore topics of interest. By reacting opportunistically and with previous demonstrated excellence in execution, the Company secures orders and is a preferred supplier to a number of leading outlets.
